Scholarship Description
The Mary J. Szczepanski "Never Give Up" MS Scholarship Foundation has built its own reputation of community awareness, education in the high schools, raising funds for Multiple Sclerosis and being recognized as the most imaginative program in Michigan by educators, parents, students and businesses. The inaugural year of the program was the fall of 2000. This unique and prestigious program has touched the lives of many people in communities across the world and is constantly raising awareness of this terrible disease.
Our National High School Program
Students from all 50 states are invited to participate annually as we search for the senior who raises the most funds for MS. A $500.00 college scholarship and plaque will be awarded and he/she will be honored as our National recipient.

American Planning Association's Essay Contest 2012-2013

High school juniors and seniors are invited to enter the American Planning Association’s (APA) annual high school essay contest. Two $5,000 college scholarships will be awarded.
Students are asked to create a historic preservation plan for their community. The plan should focus on preserving the community’s significant historic areas, buildings, elements or features. To see the assignment please go to www.planning.org/essay.
Essay submissions are due January 15, 2009. Eligibility and additional information is available at http://www.planning.org/essay
Two students will each receive a $5,000 scholarship to the college or university he or she attends after graduation and complimentary registration and a travel stipend to attend an APA National Planning Conference. Marathon Oil Company Foundation established the Marathon Scholars Program to assist employees' children who plan to continue education in college or vocational school programs. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student's choice.
Eligibility
Applicants to the Marathon Scholars Program must be:
- Children* of regular full-time or regular part-time employees (part-time employees must have one year of service as of the application deadline) of Marathon or Speedway SuperAmerica LLC. Children of retired or deceased employees (regular full-time or part-time employees at the time of retirement or death) are also eligible.
*The program is available to sons and daughters (including legally adopted or stepchildren) and to those with legal guardian arrangements if the parent or legal guardian is, or was at the time of retirement or death, a regular full-time or regular part-time employee (part-time employees must have had one year of service).
- High school seniors with a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) who plan to enroll in a full-time** undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university, or at an accredited vocational-technical school.
Applicants planning to enroll in an accredited college or university must take the ACT or SAT College entrance exam.
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $500 to $1,500. Up to forty (40) awards will be granted each year as follows:
Up to thirty (30) awards will be granted to children of Marathon employees, as long as there are qualified applicants.
Up to ten (10) awards are designated for children of Speedway SuperAmerica LLC employees, as long as there are qualified applicants.

Pick one social issue and research the cause and extent of the problem. Suggest ways to help solve this problem using methods that involve moral values and conscience. The National WWII Museum invites you to tell us, in your own words, if you agree with Anne Frank’s belief that "people are really good at heart". Read her diary to get a fuller understanding of her views, which were often contradictory, but always heartfelt. Use WWII and the Holocaust as a starting point and base you answer in part on examples you find in this history. This is NOT a research paper about Anne Frank or WWII. Your essay will be judged for originality, clarity of expression, adherence to contest theme, historical accuracy, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. The best essays will include specific examples from WWII and specific examples from today. You may use examples from your own experiences, as Anne so often did. Museum education staff will judge entries.

Kappa Delta Chi High School Scholarship 2012-2013
Criteria: The National Foundation – Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc. High School Scholarship was established in 1999 to assist graduating high school women, regardless of academic discipline, who have demonstrated a strong commitment to academics and community service. This scholarship is solely for female and current high school seniors. Applicants must attend a four-year college/university in the 2012-2013 Academic Year. Applicants must not be related to any member of the Kappa Delta Chi National Foundation Board of Directors or Scholarship Selection Committee.
Amount: This scholarship is available on a competitive basis and is a one-time award ranging from $500-$1,000 for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Central Utah Water Conservancy District Essay Contest
Criteria: Students ages 13-18 should write an essay ‘analyzing and explaining what you think the single greatest challenge is to water conservation and make recommendations for how leaders can influence citizens to overcome it.

Foster Care to Success 2012-2013
Criteria: Applicants must: have been in public or private foster care for a minimum of 12 consecutive months at the time of their 18th birthday; OR have been adopted or placed into legal guardianship from foster care after their 16th birthday; OR they must have been orphaned for at least one year at the time of their 18th birthday. Have been accepted into or expect to be accepted into an accredited, Pell-eligible college or other post-secondary school. Be under the age of 25 on March 31 of the year in which they first apply. (March 31, 2012). Have been in foster care or orphaned while living in the United States. U.S. citizenship is not required.
